Fitting a communal door lock to common entrance doors

The common entrance door is the door leading from the road to the apartments or flats of a building.

The problem with a communal door if a double locking latch is locked from the outside or a deadlock operated by a key from both sides is locked this can result in a dangerous situation.

In case of fire, the danger is if the deadlock is operated and you do not have a key, exit cannot be obtained through the door. Other problems arising if you leave your keys in the flat and exit you become trapped between doors, over the years this has become a common occurance.

Therefore a strong communal door lock with easy access needs to be fitted.

For your Communal Door Lock which are Insurance approved, we recommend the following locks.

An extremly secure lock for a communal entrance doors is the Ingersol SC73. The Ingersoll SC73 rim lock/nightlatch is supplied in various finishes and comes with 3 keys.

Deadbolt is automatically thrown when door closes and withdrawn by pull lever from inside or with use of a key outside. This lock cannot be locked from the outside. Bolt can be held back by turn snib on side of the lock case.

Suitable for inward and outward opening doors Mechanism :10 Lever Cylinder.

The price to fit in the North London area including VAT at 15% would be £60.00 plus cost of lock.

The lock shown here, is a British Standard Egress rim lock and is approved  by Insurance Companies.

The lock cannot be locked from the inside, but is key operated fom the outside.

It cannot be slipped and has an anti drill plate guard, fitted to protect the  cylinder face.

It has a 6 pinned cylinder chamber.

In the event of a fire or fleaving your key in your flat, the door can be opened from the inside.

This Dead Lock is also an Egress Lock, which means in can be opened from the inside, without a key, but, is key operated from the outside.This lock is also a British Standard lock and is accepted by Insurance Companies.When fitted with the above lock, is an ideal solution to your Communal Door.

We would advice fitting a letter cowl and a purpose made London Bar, with these locks.

If you have an electric release fitted, with a standard latch lock, then it is advisable to fit an Electric Cisa Lock.

A lock that is an ideal replacement for a Communal Door Lock, is the Cisa lock, it can be opened from your apartment, the same as your existing standard latch.The Cisa lock is fail safe, so in the event of a powe failure, can still be opened manualy, by pressing the red button.This lock cannot be opened by slipping.
